Steps:
1.See the food and start salivating (digestive system swings into action.
2. MOUTH- organs in digestive tract kick into gear.
3. Saliva is produced through salivary glands which helps breakdown food.
4. Teeth--> transform the food into bolus
5. Swallow it and it gets propelled into the ESOPHAGUS
6. STOMACH- muscles in esophagus wall create synchronized waves that propel the bolus into the stomach.
** lower esophageal sphincter= last part of the esoph.
7. Stomach mixes the food into smaller pieces. Mixes with acids and enzymes to form semifluid (chyme).
8. Waves of muscle propel chyme into pylorus
9. SMALL INTESTINE= first place within the Small Intestine is the duodenum.
10. In the duodenum it mixes with juices from pancreas, liver, and gallbladder.
11. Jejunum is the second part of the S.I.
12. Ileum is the final portion of the SI-- all that remains is combo of water, electrolites, and waste products.
13. LARGE INTESTINE ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon- water is absorbed leaving stool.
14. Anus- sphincter muscles relax and stool leaves body.
